Apple’s Pro and Tell event: touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro is now official
Apple has announced a touchscreen MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED display at its October 28 product launch. The new 14-inch and 16-inch models use M5 Pro or M5 Max, with US prices starting at $2,899.
Called PROLED XDR, the display supports touch input and brings the Dynamic Island to Mac. Apple lists preorders from October 28, with the first deliveries and shop availability beginning November 6.
The touchscreen models join products Apple announced earlier this week: the M6 MacBook Pro and M6 iMac on October 27, and the OLED iPad mini on October 26. Those earlier announcements remain separate from today’s new MacBook Pro.

The new touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899
The 14-inch version with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 in the US, while the 16-inch M5 Pro version starts at $3,399. M5 Max configurations begin at $4,499 and $4,799 respectively. Apple’s announcement also confirms three Thunderbolt 5 ports and storage options up to 16TB.
The standard 14-inch M5 Pro configuration has a 15-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage. Apple offers the PROLED machines separately from the M6 MacBook Pro with its mini-LED screen.
Touch and OLED bring changes beyond the processor
The PROLED models have 14.2-inch and 16.3-inch screens, with refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz. Both support P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces. The brightness rating reaches 2,000 nits for peak HDR and SDR output, while sustained full-screen brightness tops out at 1,000 nits.
macOS translates touches into clicks, so Apple says many existing apps work with the touchscreen immediately. Dedicated touch updates for apps including Microsoft Office, Adobe Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve are due later this year.
Dynamic Island shows activities and music controls above your work. The lighter designs start at 3lb for the 14-inch model and 4lb for the 16-inch model, with weight varying by configuration. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack alongside Thunderbolt 5.
Apple announced the M6 Macs and iPad mini earlier this week
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, announced on October 27, starts at $1,999 in the US. It has a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, with a Liquid Retina XDR display. US preorders are open.
The M6 iMac was also announced on October 27. It starts at $1,499 in the US with a 10-core CPU and GPU; the 12-core version starts at $1,699. It retains a 24-inch 4.5K display and comes in seven colours.
The new iPad mini was announced on October 26. It combines an 8.5-inch OLED screen with A20 Pro and a landscape front camera. US pricing begins at $699 for Wi-Fi or $849 for cellular, and preorders are open.
Amazon is also taking US preorders for the 128GB Wi-Fi iPad mini in midnight for $699, sold and shipped by Amazon.com.
Apple gives all three a November 6 launch date. Delivery estimates for a particular configuration are shown when ordering.
The Pro and Tell gathering was scheduled for 10am Pacific in Los Angeles. Apple’s Events page still shows its earlier iPhone presentation at this update; the new hardware details are published on Apple Newsroom.
